Since the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2021, the beauty world has changed ultimately for the better. Beauty professionals have had to adapt to a whole new way of living after the coronavirus pandemic swept the nation last year. Thousands of hairstylists, makeup artists, aestheticians and more were out of work during this time. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 54% of those out of work in the beauty industry were women. With the help of social media, beauty professionals were able to make additional income and expand their brand, becoming the highest growing industry in 2021.
At the start of the covid-19 pandemic, thousands of beauty professionals were left stranded and out of work. Entrepreneurs were forced to look for alternate revenues to bring in income due to salon closures. Sunnystorm Marketing curated a list that would give beauty professionals ideas on how to make money during the pandemic,
Make and sell a brand-new product.
Build an online store.
Formulate and sell your own beauty products.
Partner with a well-known beauty brand.
Offer 1 on 1 virtual appointments with clients.
Teach online classes.
Vegan colorist, Kari Hill, created DIY hair coloring kits as a way to bring in revenue during the shutdown but more importantly to find an alternative route to help serve her customers. Hill told Refinery29, “I’m offering a digital consultation that’s very similar to one in the salon,” Hill says. “Then I mix up the formula and send it to them with instructions. I joke that gray roots are the only thing paying my mortgage right now.”
The pandemic helped women explore their creative side and while doing so, pursuing dreams that had been on the back burner. Natalie James created a monthly subscription service in East London called Tingle. The box was created to send beauty, makeup, and skincare products to your door during the lockdown that were not easily accessible.
Through the lockdown, beauty professionals still managed to make it happen no matter the circumstances. Covid-19 may have changed the beauty world forever, but it has made it known that anything is possible with the female brain. Covid-19 has created new outlets and opportunities for the thousands of beauty professionals around the world.
